Allyson Felix, A Lesson in Perseverance

If you have been watching track and field as closely as I have then you have been inspired by the many story lines that have come from this years Olympics. So much inspiration and stories of athlete’s perseverance overcoming both physical and emotional hurdles.

How can you miss the big smile from Allyson Felix.  Watching her train with Bobby Kersey you can see that she had one goal in 2012, to earn the Gold.  Her story is simple, she has been fueled by the disappointment- Allyson finished second at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, despite running her season’s best time in the 200 meters at 21.93, she finished second against a time of 21.74.  So much hard work in 2008 to finish so close to Gold.

Watching Allyson win the 200 meter Gold was inspiring, doesn’t she have one of the most amazing strides you have ever seen?  There are many other stories like this, where an athlete trains and trains and trains only to fall hundreds of a second short in their goal.  Having to start all over again- training, qualifying and finally performing on the big stage with huge expectations.  Allyson Felix did it, and she flashed that million dollar smile at the end.

Congratulations to Allyson, for winning Gold and thank you for giving us all a lesson in working hard to achieve your goals.
