Running to Me: New Year – BEST You
It’s the New Year, and honestly if I see one more “new year, new you” article I might heave. If you’re an avid workout enthusiast this might actually be a time of year that you loathe. Your regular gym is filled with New-Year-Resolutioners, and your friends or coworkers are running around exclaiming how hard they are going to work this year on there health.
Sigh.
I wish anyone the gift of the health and wellness, but rather than focus on a life-overhaul, I say focus on the present and day-to-day.
I am getting back into routine after giving birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy. My husband is getting back to workouts and cycling after weeks off since breaking the thumb on his dominant hand (courtesy of a mountain biking tumble). Sometimes it’s not finding a “new” you, but working on the “best” you.
I don’t need a major shake-up; I need to focus on basics. Instead of setting massive goals I want to reset my normal routine and get back into my workouts. I’m eyeing workout programs and races, looking forward to diving right back into things.
I wish you an amazing, successful new year. There’s nothing wrong with setting some healthy goals this month or year, and may you set yourself up for your best year yet! Take a few steps in the right direction.
Spill it– do you make resolutions? Plans for 2013?

Yes indeed: sigh. I like your approach, honestly. Personally I don’t set resolutions, I set goals whenever I need to, I don’t see the point in waiting for a calender switch-over to change myself. I don’t want to procrastinate in changing myself, if I do, then there can’t really be much motivation or enthusiasm to do it, can there?
I wish you the best year ever, may it be full of diligence and joy!
Last year I set a 12 item to-do list for the year rather than “resolutions” per say. Some running goals were on there (1st marathon, and run 6 trail races), some bucket list items (visiting national parks), some work items, and some more silly ones (make my own sushi, finish an entire Crest Whitestrips box, etc). I liked that style a lot more than vague “I will be better” type resolutions.
Happy new year! Great post! Plans for 2013? Work/Life/Running balance. There is a way to do it all but not be stressed about it.
I could not agree more with this post! In fact, I wrote something similar in the beginning of the year. Love your blog.
